How to make a Shell Cake with meringue and nuts
I think both adults and children will like this delicate pastry. Thin crispy dough and a wonderful filling of whipped protein and nuts are perfectly combined in these small cakes shaped like seashells, and therefore also named. I suggest you read the recipe and, of course, bake this delicious joy for any holiday, and not only.
Step-by-step recipe
1. |
Prepare the necessary ingredients. |
2. |
We will chop and peel the nuts, I used walnuts, but they can be any — according to your taste. |
3. |
Cut the butter into cubes at room temperature. |
4. |
In a bowl with butter, sift the flour and grind everything into crumbs. |
5. |
In a glass of water, break an egg and shake it with a fork. |
6. |
In a separate cup, extinguish the soda with vinegar. |
7. |
In a bowl with butter and flour, pour the mixture of water and eggs, as well as slaked soda. |
8. |
Knead a soft pliable dough. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. |
9. |
While the dough is resting in the refrigerator, we will prepare the filling. Put the room temperature proteins in a blender bowl and start whipping. |
10. |
Gradually add sugar to the egg mixture and whisk until high peaks. |
11. |
You should get a mixture like this. |
12. |
We take the dough out of the refrigerator and divide it into 4 parts. One part is rolled out into a thin layer. |
13. |
From the dough we cut out mugs of any shape convenient for you. The size of the shell will directly depend on the size of the circle, there will be a small circle, there will be small shells. |
14. |
In the middle of each mug we spread the protein mixture and nuts. |
15. |
The circle with the filling is folded twice to make a shell and spread on a baking sheet covered with parchment. |
16. |
Bake the shells for about 7-10 minutes, cool slightly and sprinkle with powdered sugar. We brew tea and serve seashells to the table. Bon Appetit! |
